Wolverine's mask has always bothered me. It's too Batman. I like the way Frank Quitely draws Wolvie with no mask and a simpler costume. Somebody who has lived as long as he has would have dropped the Halloween costume long ago. Do you have to adhere to published style sheets from Marvel when it comes to costume? or can you dress the characters any way you want?
I like your tall Warbird. She needs to be more Amazon than she's been drawn in the past. 7-feet tall, more physically imposing, maybe slightly irritated with the puny humans around her.
And, while I'm ranting, Storm's look has always fallen a bit short in my opinion. She has never looked African to me. With her almond-shaped eyes, thin nose and lips, and white hair, she lacks any clear racial identity. It's almost a Michael Jackson racial-denial thing. Is this look an unintentional racist choice? Are Marvel's readers afraid of African facial features? Why not draw her with darker skin, a broad nose, fuller lips and an afro? I bet the X-Men fans would love it. Pluralism is the way!
Sorry about the rant. I had some things to get off my chest, I guess.
100% agree about Storm. I can't get over how absolutely European some artist draw her. My favorite Storm is done by David Yardin (and Ed did a very respectable job here). Sexy but powerful (looks like a Goddess) and actually looks African lol.
